    Re: What should be my subject combination for civil services after completing MBA?

    When choosing an optional subject many question crops out in mind such as-

    * A scoring optional?
    * The most popular optional?
    * Easy to understand or which you find interesting?
    * Subject with easy availability of study materials like books and
    notes?

    Let me make one thing very clear that your MBA background has got nothing to do with Civil Service Optionals selection.
    Many students with Engineering background and MBA degrees has chosen Humanities subject like English, Public Administration,Sociology and have been succesful. For example Shah Faesal of Kashmir, Topper of 2010 IAS , is a doctor and chose Urdu Literature and Public Administration as optionals.

    While Manish Pandey , 14th rank holder of 2012 IAS, chose English and Public Administration as optional of which English was his Bachelors degree(Honors Paper subject).

    So, choose wisely and decide on your own on the basis of previous educational background as which subject will you find easy and interesting.

    Your interest and hard work will make that subject easy scoring.

    I cannot judge your capacities and take decisions on your behalf.Please decide the optionals yourself.

    Some popular combinations of IAS optionals-

    This is just for your knowledge. Nowhere am I suggesting you take up the same otherwise what I said above would be idiotic.

    * Sociology and Psychology
    * History and geography
    * Sociology and Pub Ad
    * Sociology/History/Psycho/Geog and Pali Litt.
    * Pub Ad and Psycho
    * Pub Ad and Geography
    * Pub Ad and History

    To summarize, any optional that you find interesting, stimulating, fun to learn is right for you. Donít worry about popularity or scoring potential. Both are just an indicator. Every optional is equally scoring provided you have mastered the syllabus and the answer writing aspect.

    I hope this post helped selecting the right optionals for IAS much easier task.

    Good Luck

    Is it necessary to attend any reputed classes for doing IAS preperation? If No, than can it be done, getting best books by sitting at home?
