What are the eligibility criteria for appearing for the MAT exam and what importance does it hold in India?

Hello my name is Suruchi Patel and I am a final year student in graduation. Like many other friends I have, I am planning for MBA in coming time. Everyone knows about CAT but I also want to know about MAT? Does MAT also gives you option to apply for many universities for pursuing MBA?

Hello Suruchi. Well, lot of people associate MBA with CAT only however this is not true. The reason can be that the most successful university offering MBA is IIM and it is associated with CAT. However, MAT is also an entrance exam for MBA aspirants only.

There are a lot of options for students who clear the MAT exam. It is also known as Management Aptitude Test and is backed with All India Management Association. It is also one of the most popular exams with candidates opting for MBA. The eligibility is same i.e. a graduation degree or in final year of graduation. This degree can be any stream but what is more important is that it should be done from a recognized university. So, keep no doubts in your mind and go for it.

MAT is one of the many entrance tests conducted for MBA program like XAT,SNAP,JMET,IBSAT.It provides the students to choose between online mode and paper based test. The pattern of the exam is similar to other papers consisting of sections like data interpretation, reading comprehension, analytical reasoning etc. There is no section on GK in it unlike SNAP.A lot of colleges accept MAT score.

hi suruchi, as far as MAT is concerned, there are a no.of colleges who ask for MAT score also. So just go through the eligibiltity criteria from the colleges of ur choice and then prepare for the xam.
And as u have said that u r a final year student, u can go for MAT exam this december, and as u clear it,u will get ur percentile then u can easily get admission in the colleges who ask for MAT results .But the preference will be given to higher rank student first and in case any final year student gets lower rank,he or she can again appear for the xam in the coming Feb.(again before completion of ur graduation). So i think it best suites you so make ur mind to go for it this dec.itself.Best of luck for ur future.

Re: What are the eligibility criteria for appearing for the MAT exam and what importance does it hold in India?

    Hello,
MAT (Management Aptitude Test) is conducted by AIMA (All India Management association) every year. It is also an entrance exam to get admission in elite B-schools and is similar to CAT (Common Admission Test) used for admission in B-schools only.

The only difference lies in the pattern of exams i.e in MAT there is a section relating to general knowledge and IIM with some top institutes accept CAT. But the MAT exam also hold the same importance and it is accepted by the recognized colleges/universities through out the India.

As far as the eligibility criteria is concerned, It is similar to that of CAT that a person needs to have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university and a person in final year can also apply for it with 50% total percentage.

    Thank you
