Re: Is there any negative marking in MAT? Total number of marks and minimum marks required to qualify MAT?

    Hi there,
Well i am afraid YES would be the answer to your question. MAT has negative marking that actually varies from year to year. It used to be 0.25 per wrong answer but seeing the unpredictability factor therein it is rather justified to assume that the marks allocation may change. The MAT paper is held 4 times a year and comprises of 5 sections with 40 questions each carrying 1 mark thereby 5x40=200 marks. The 5 sections are Data analysis and Sufficiency, Mathematical Skills, Intelligence and Critical Reasoning, Language Comprehension and the last one is Indian and Global Environment.
I think there is no hard and fast rule for the selection or the threshold of minimum number of marks to obtain to get qualified. But any mark above 125 are worth securing a seat at the best colleges of MAT. Moreover since the number of colleges are too many in MAT therefore the sheer attendance in the exam may surprise you with a selection letter or a call from just any institute. All the Best.
