Scope of Industrial Engineering & Management

I just completed my B-Tech in Mechanical Engineering from a university in Kerala. I want to take an MBA from a very good B-School, either from India or abroad. But presently, i am under the impression that little bit of work experience is required to completely utilize an mba programme.. I was not able to get into a good company through campus placements as i didn't attend any of them. They were all software companies. So i decided to do my M-Tech in a course which is closest to an mba. Some recommended M-Tech in Industrial Engineering & Management is the next best thing i could do before my mba presently, as it has almost the same things one would come across during his mba. I was told that if i could manage to do my M-Tech in Industrial Engineering & Management from a good university like the IITs or the NITs, that would fetch me a good job and then after 3-4 years, i could try to get into a good B-School with sufficient work experience and also a good academic back ground. With this idea in mind, i have presently joined a GATE coaching center to prepare for the same.

I would like to know if my decision is right. These are certain things I'm concerned about :

    - Does Industrial Engineering & Management course have value in India or abroad?
    - Will I get a good job after this course ?
    - Which are the good universities in India offering this course ?
    - Do i have any other alternatives ?

Yes of course industrial engineering and management has very good scope in India and abroad. It is similar to production management and operation management. You will take these types of jobs::

    Identifying new product candidates
    Gathering the voice of customers
    Defining product requirements
    Determine business-case and feasibility
Scoping and defining new products at high level
Evangelizing new products within the company
Building product roadmaps, particularly Technology roadmaps
Developing all products on schedule, working to a critical path
Ensuring products are within optimal price margins and up to specifications

Re: Scope of Industrial Engineering & Management

I have done recently M.tech in Systems Management. It is related to Industrial Engineering & Management. Before m.tech i did B.E. in IT. Presently i am working in engineering college as faculty of cs/it but i want to work in management dept. but i didn't get any management related job. Even i have knowledge of spss, matlab, powersim, r--software. So i would like to know should i do MBA or go for Ph.d? if i join MBA then after mba can i get good job? if i go for ph.d then after phd what options would be available for me? or do i have any other alternatives?
