I would suggest that you should try for both the exams.
If you have not given the MBA written tests in the year 2012, than you can only give the MBA written tests in the year 2013 and will try for admission for the MBA session 2014-16

In the year 2013 PO exams would be conducted two times:
    One by SBI
Second by IBPS. Please note that IBPS conducts PO exams for 20 Nationalised banks

Right now SBI has already announced its PO vacancy
Forms are being filled right now
    1500 seats are there.

    Eligibilty to apply is:
    Graduation Pass
Age between 21 and 30 years
Candidates should have born between 2nd January 1983 to 1st January 1992
SBI PO exams would be held on 28th April 2013
Last date to apply is 23rd February 2013

IBPS would be conducting the PO exams in June or july 2013

So, right now fill the SBI PO exam forms and start preparing for the exams.
Give the exams in April and see how you do in the exam.

Questions will be asked from the below sections in the SBI PO exams:Test of English Language (Grammar, Vocabulary, Comprehension etc)
Test of General Awareness, Marketing and Computers
Test of Data Analysis and Interpretation
    Test of Reasoning (High Level)

After April, you can start Preparing for the MBA written tests like CAT, XAT and SNAP
Also most of the topics that you will prepare for the PO exams would be there in MBA written tests also like English, Reasoning, Data Analysis etc
