    Hi!

It is very nice that you are starting your preparation from the 1st year onwards.
Please, spend your whole first your in building your foundation for CAT i.e through with your basic in English and Maths.

    For English,
-Read Newspapers editorials and Magazines daily to increase your reading speed as well as usage.
    - Read Vocabulary book named "Word power made easy"..

    For Maths,
    - Try out all chapters of R.S.Agrawal that will enhance your basics of Maths.

After completing this, GO for Higher level of questions from Arun sharma.

This is how you can approach towards your preparation.

    Still, Any query ???
    please ask

    Regards,

Well,i'm appreciating your interest towards CAT exam. CAT is a common admission test conducted by IIMs to get admission in their Management programs, CAT is a national wide online test.before 2009 it was offline test.from 2009 on wards CAT was conducting in on line mode.first you have to concentrate on your present studies.try to get good percentage in your academics that will be a added advantage to you in the admission procedure of IIMs.

you have to do practice on quantitative ability, logical reasoning, aptitude etc...this are all very important in CAT exam.keep practice this section. Practice only help you to get good marks in CAT exam.because it is a on line test.where no other equipment will be provided you.you have to answer without any help so be careful.

    U didnt mentioned your stream.
CAT preparation is started mostly in final or pre final year, there is no need to take so much tension. It takes only 6-8 month for a good preparation.
Most important is your Interview. If you are in commerce field, then still ok, but from any other, than be prepared to face question " Why do u like to do MBA" or "why are you changing your field".
Reagarding some priliminary preparation, you can improve you communication skills in mean time as general awareness as well about various business issues. You can read Economics time & some good monthly magazine.

hi..if you start the preparation right from the first year onward you will have an four years of time to prepare for the cat examination and you will have an extensive preparation which many of the students do not do ,as the syllabus of cat examination is divided into four parts quantitative ,verbal, reasoning and data interpretation and you would already be having an idea about this things you can start an self preparation right from the first years onward, the best books to follow would be the materials of the time institute and the books of arun sharma they are the best books for the cat preparation ,it would be best if you join an coaching institute in the second and third year of your graduation because then you will be having the proper guidance and good materials to prepare for the examination also you would have an ample time in coaching institute s to learn the subjects at your own pace if you miss some thing at your first year in coaching you could learn in second year of coaching and that will do wonders for you.
the best coaching institute for cat preparation is the time institute giving most of the toppers in the cat examination every year ,also there materials are the most extensive and very well planned for the cat examination ,also keep solving the previous years papers of the cat examination from time to time to test your level of preparation that would also help you a lot to improve

Re: How to start preparation for CAT from 1st year onwards?

    Hello friend......

First I would like to praise you for your decision that you have decided your aim that what you are going to do in the future after completing your engineering degree.Starting earlier will help you to prepare for the subject properly and you can give your best then.

So as you want to prepare for the CAT entrance exam from the 1st year of your engineering itself, it is very good and here I am providing you the necessary steps that you should follow::

Firstly you should know the complete syllabus of the CAT exam. According to for getting into the IIM you need to first clear the written CAT exam and then you have to perform well in the group discussion and the personal interview.
Now for the written exam , the questions are asked generally from the sections of Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning , Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation.
So you have to thoroughly prepare for the above sections to score good percentile of marks in the written CAT exam.

To prepare for the English section have to read the daily newspapers and some magazines and also you have to learn 20 new words every day and try to remember then along with their meaning , antonyms and synonyms .And you should even use those new word in the sentence in your say to day life so that you don't forget them. These would increase you reading power and increase you vocabulary.
And for the Mathematics part , you have to learn all the formulas and then you have to practice a lot because the more you will practice the more you will learn.

Apart from these you even have to develop the leadership skills and conversation skills to face the group discussion and the personal interview. This you can do by talking in English to your friend and taking part in the debate , extempore etc.

Here I am suggestion you some of the which you can follow for the preparation for the CAT :

You may purchase these book from the book store nearby your area or even you can order them online.

Hope this would satisfy your query.

    Best of luck.

    Regards

    Hi Friend ,

    CAT Preparation
some suggestions for the preparation towards Indias most competitive exam, the CAT:

The CAT exam usually tests your abilities in the following areas:
    • Quantitative Aptitude
    • Reading Comprehension & Verbal Ability
    • Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency
Note: But, always be sure to verify what areas, you can expect to be tested.

    >>If you are passionate about doing MBA, then you are halfway in the process. It takes a lot of passion and determination for one to reach, where they wanted to be;

    >>Planning is very essential for the preparation of CAT. start with collecting information about the CAT preparation material; enquire about the CAT coaching institutions if you think you need it. There are plenty of good coaching institutions; you can choose one, by the quality of coaching they provide. A systematic approach will help you with gauging, where you stand towards your goal.

    >> Once decided, start working towards that goal. You may start slowly but increase the pace of your preparation as the time pass; being consistent in your preparation is quite crucial. You should start discovering the areas, where you are strong and where there is a room for improvement. You must make your stronger area into the strongest and work towards improving the weaker sections. Always keep yourself motivated

    >>Do not stress yourself, by studying all the time. Over dosage often, kills. Hence, it is better to prepare at the pace, which would be working best for you.

    >>A suggestion would be that you start with understanding the concepts of the areas to be tested, followed by speeding up the process, through such processes, you can quickly get to results! Do not let go your passion at any cause.

    CAT Exam Pattern:
    CAT has two sections.
    Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation
    Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning.

These two sections will be implemented sequentially with separate time limits. Duration of Exam is 140 minutes. you have 70 minutes to answer 30 questions within each section you can review your answers only in give 70 minutes you wont get any Extra time for that section. Once you move on to the second section you will no longer be able to go back to First .

Each IIM shortlisted students get a call for second stage of selection which may be independent of each other. It may include Written Ability Test , Group Discussions and Personal Interviews .

    Good Luck!!!!

    Hi

its too early to start for CAT preparation.
There are possibility that you would loose your interest soon.
The best time would be your 3rd year ( in case you are doing your Engineering).
You can join any good coaching classes such as

    1. TIME
    2. Career Launcher
    3. IMS etc

practice through various test series. Learn vocab from RS Agarwal
Arun sharma, RS Agarwal are very good books to start with.

I would advice to concentrate at graduation at present. If you are genuinely interested 1 year practice is enough to get you in good college.
Dont aim for good mba college at the cost of graduation marks.

    All the best
