The eligibility criteria for the NET exam is 55% or above marks in master degree with a recognized university. There is no any age limit for the NET exam. But if you also fill the form of JRF exam i.e. Junior research fellowship exam then the age criteria is maximum 28 years.
After passing UGC JRF exam you will be eligible for the Lecturer post as well as PhD from a good university. But if your age is not Less than or 28 years then you should go for the NET exam.

Also your university will be recognized with UGC and specially with AIU, Association of Indian University. If you want to see the recognition in the AIU website go to www.aiuweb.org and click on Member listing Tab which is upper right corner of the site. For more information about UGC NET exam click on www.ugcnetonline.in. Best of luck.
