Re: Eligibility criteria for CAT? Is the graduation percentage is a criteria for selection in MBA institutes like IIM's?

YES, the graduation percentage plays a very important role in the admission process of IIMs rather many MBA school.

The minimum eligibility criteria for MBA-

    > Students must have a recognized degree in any discipline of at least 3 years post intermediate ( 10+2+3).

    > Must have 50% marks in Graduation degree ( general category) or 45% marks(SC/ST /PD Category)

All the IIMs give importance to graduation marks for selection.

IIMs have a system called application rating point system.

In this system candidates after the CAT exam are called for GD and Interview after they get a minimum Application point.

Given below an example of IIM Ahemdabed Selection procedure 2012-2014 batch

    Short listing Criterion
    :

70% weightage is given to the CAT/GMAT score and 30% weightage is given to the Application Rating Score.

    Rating score 1 2 3

    (A ) Percentage of 10th <60 60-80 80+
    (B) Percentage of 12th <60 60-80 80+
    (C) Percentage of Graduation <60 60-80 80+
    (D) Percentage in Masters degree < 60 60-80 80+
    (E) Work experience <1 year 1-2 years 2+ years

    Application Rating Score: (AxBxC)+D+E

In the second step, after the completion of personal interviews of all candidates short-listed in the first step, candidates for admission to the 2012-14 batch of the PGP at IIM Ahmedabad are selected from among the candidates who have attended the personal interviews.

In preparing this list, apart from performance in the personal interview, the CAT/GMAT score*, academic performance and achievements, extra-curricular activities, and post-degree work experience are also taken into consideration.

Thus the above examples signifies the importance of Graduation.

I have attached pdf for selection procedure various IIMs for reference.
