Post Graduate Diploma in Management i.e. PGDM is the Graduation Diploma course but it is not PG degree. MBA is Master in Business Administration which is fully a Master or PG degree.
You can understand it like the diploma and graduation degree. Diploma is 3 years course and graduation is also 3 years course but what both are same? As like that PGD is the Diploma after Graduation and MBA is PG degree.

The duration of PGDM is 1 Years and its eligibility is also Graduation. Some universities offers PGDM of 2 Years and they called it is equivalent to MBA but actually PGDM and MBA both are not equivalent. Some universities offers PGDM course of 2.5 Years.

But if someone do PGDM course then he/she can go for MBA lateral entry. MBA is 2 Years course and you can go for direct 2nd year of MBA skipping 1st Year with the PGDM degree. In that case MBA will be of 1 Years for PGDM holder. But if you are graduate and you have good marks in graduation then you should go MBA directly. The eligibility criteria for MBA is Graduation with 50% of marks with a recognized university.

Mainly those people go for PGDM course who want the short term course in Management after graduation. Also who have no good marks in Graduation or below than 50% marks they can go PGDM course for good marks and apply for MBA. If you are a fresher and want to go for Master degree then you should go directly to MBA course. Best of luck.

    MBA:Masters in Business Administration

The degree is given by universities or university affiliated colleges .

    PGDM:Post Graduate Diploma in Management

This is the degree given by AICTE recognized autonomous institutes such as IIM's

Thus for pursuing PGDM you must ensure that the institute is AICTE recognised

As for as value of the degree both are 2 year courses and are equivalent.

Keep in mind either MBA or PGDM you must look for the best college or university because it will matter the most .

Re: Difference between MBA & PGDM?

    Hello Dear.

MBA means masterin bussiness administration and PGDM means post graduate in diploma and mangements,
Both the courses are of Master degree, and can be done only after getting graduation level of educations.
But here is some difference in Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration and in Masters in Business Administration.

Masters in Business Administration is 2 year degree course in Business and Management in which student have to study about a particular field. And the fields are-->>

Finance,Hr,Mass communications,etc...and learn all the relevant subjects related to business and management.
Also Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration is 2 year Diploma course in this course also student learn about the business and management of company.

Most of the institutions provide PGDBA which is often consider as equivalent to Degree course, and it is very much related with MBA course.

For the job purpose PGDM is more better options than MBA because PGDM involves practical knowledge more than MBA programme, also the syllabus of PGDM covers the wide

range of applications for a company.

But in India both the courses are very much related and almost the values are same.

    Hope it helps you.

    Good Luck
