Re: Dates, fees structure, syllabus and detailed information about CET entrance exam and is there any difference between CET and GMAT?

CET is a Common Entrance Test conducted by the Government of Maharashtra by a body called Directorate of Technical Education for admission of candidates to 4 different courses - MBA, MMS, PGDBM, PGDBA. The CET score is accepted in about 80 colleges in Maharashtra.

The eligibility criteria for the exam is minimum 50% marks in graduation for general category and 45% marks for reserved category students. The graduation should be a Bachelor's degree of minimum 3 year duration from a recognized University.

In the first week of February for a period of 18-20 days, the selling of Information Brochures starts at select Axis Bank branches for an amount of Rs. 1150 (Rs. 950 for reserved category students). The candidates have to then fill up the application form online and will receive their admit cards. Appear for the exam on the declared date and when the results are announced, if you have a good score you will be called for further rounds of Group Discussion and Personal Interviews.

The exam this year was set for 11 March 2012. So expect the next year date to be around the same time.

The syllabus remains the same as that of other entrances. The paper consists of different type of questions such as -

    Verbal Ability 35 questions
    Reading Comprehension 15 questions
    Quantitative aptitude 14 questions
    Data Interpretation 20 questions
    Data Sufficiency 15 questions
    Analytical Reasoning 51 questions
    Verbal Reasoning 20 questions
    Non-verbal Reasoning 30 questions

There are a total of 200 questions with a time limit of 150 minutes. There is no negative marking in the paper.

CMAT is Calibre Management Aptitude Test conducted to test general aptitude of students for admission to management programs. The test is conducted in the last week of February during a 9 day test window. CMAT has now been accepted as the premier exam for almost a lot of states including Maharashtra, Karnataka, UP etc. and is replacing the CETs from next year onwards.

There will be no CETs from next year but only CMAT exam will be held. The eligibility criteria is minimum 50% marks in graduation for general category and 45% marks for reserved category students. The graduation should be a Bachelor's degree of minimum 3 year duration from a recognized University.

The registration can be done online by payment of Rs. 1200 (Rs. 600 for reserved category) or the payment can be done by cash in select bank branches.

The test pattern consists of questions based on Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability, Data Interpretation and General Awareness.

    All the best!
