hi..if you are interested in doing an masters in business administration in India then writing the combined admission test(CAT) is the best option because of the very simple fact that most of the colleges in the country which offer an mba course take admission on the basis of score in the cat examination .its an computer based test and probably one of the toughest mba entrance examination in the world ,and also the competition is huge with around 2.5 laks students giving the cat examination every year .To do well in this one examination one has to really work hard with lots of dedication and also needs to do smart work because hard work without smart work is just an waste of time and effort and that too in an examination like the cat examination were along with the problem solving skills more efficiency and speed is required to get a better output.
the coaching institutes teach the students in how to solve the problems at an better speed without actually struggling because the cat examination questions many of us can solve but not at the required speed but what is required in the examination will come only through lots and lots of practice and also by regularly testing one self by giving as many model tests as possible which you get the opportunity in an private coaching institutes.i would advice you that if you do not want to join the coaching institution then its fair enough you can prepare on your own but do join the test series of various coaching institution because that will surely help in an long way .
for self preparation the books of arun sharma are considered to be very useful the entire set would cost you around rs.1200 and its one of the best books for the cat examination

    Hi,
Yes, you can do it if you are good in studies. You just get to know about the complete pattern of Exam whichever you are going to give like if you are taking CAT MBA Entrance Test it has two section:-

    1. Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation
    2. Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning.

Both section have total 60 Questions (30 each) and the total duration is around 140 minutes.

If you are good in Mathematics, Quant, reasoning and genral awareness section, you can prepare yourself individually to take some online help otherwise you require some classes to solve your problem. It has around one year now to prepare CAT, you can take a chance to prepare yourself and take Online test as a sample paper if you found any problem you can Join Institute sometime later.
