After completing mechanical engineering it will be better for you to go for MBA in production.
It is very new trade in respect to other MBA trades. But it is emerging as a global and very effective module. Now as you are in Mechanical Engineering This MBA will help you a lot to understand Logistics , production technological advancements and it will give you the base to understand what is Marketing and other core MBA aspects.
As the name suggests it is related with manufacturing as well. Some statics show that this is becoming one of the highest paid MBA specialization.
I will suggest you to go for IITs for your MBA. As you are an engineering student it will be far more easier for you to Grab the ideas of several related field of manufacturing and production.
IITs designed there course specially for the engineering graduates. Production as i have already discussed in very much related with applied engineering at the top level so it will eventually become easier for you out there.
However at the end on the day it is all depends upon the student itself.
So study hard get ready to crack entrances to get a chance to read MBA in production.
    Best of Luck.

Re: Which branch should I consider in MBA while in 3rd year Mechanical?

Since MBA is Master degree and minimum qualification required to appear in any MBA exam is Graduation.
So you have to first be graduate and then you can apply for MBA entrance exams.
Yes Final Year students are eligible to appear for MBA exams.
But as you are doing BTech which is of 4 years and you are currently in 3rd year so that means you are not in the final year so you are not eligible to appear in any MBA exams.
And if you want to appear for MBA exam then you have to complete your BTech degree with at least of 50% marks and in grading system you have to must your CGPA above 6 then you are eligible to appear for same.
Talking about MBA specialization so there are many specialization in MBA here i listed some of those-
    MBA in Finance
    MBA in Health (Pharmaceuticals)
    MBA in Consultancy
    MBA in Information Technology
    MBA in Telecommunications
    MBA in Media
    MBA in Services
    MBA in Hospital Management

And if we see that which one is best then my answer is all are best you just need to study well and try to score high in your field you will get good future.
But in today time finance sector has more demand comparison to other sectors...so in my opinion you can go for Finance sector...

    Dear Anuragbasu,

I suggest you to take a specialisation in MBA which contemporise your Engineering Stream and that will help you a lot in any
recruitment without much search/options. Why I am stressing the issue is that if you simply take any non-technical subject
would literally pose your Technical Background. So take due care while choosing the subject specialisation.

Few specialisation options I would like to suggest you as under:-

Project Management & (Six Sigma Certification, have to do separately)
    Infrastructure Management
    Shipping & Port Management
    Power Management
    Aviation Management
    Operations Management
    Business Management
    Oil & Gas Management
Information Systems- ERP Management & Marketing
    Information Technology Management
    Innovation Entrepreneurship

All above specialisations need some background of some technical knowledge, so now you must have understood what the
importance in choosing a specialisation is.

    Best wishes…

Re: Which branch should I consider in MBA while in 3rd year Mechanical?

Just like you have different branches in engineering, similar is the case in MBA. There are various branches like :
    MBA (Marketing Management)
    MBA (Human Resource Management)
MBA (Logistics and Supply Chain Management)
    MBA (Finance)
    MBA (Tourism and Hospitality Management)
    MBA (Entrepreneurial Management)
    MBA (Finance)
    MBA (IT)

But you are just a new bee in management field now & also not have enough information about how to choose. Since you have 2 two year before you will give MBA entrance exam, during that period get to know about all these specializations & then only decide. Others may even advice you to choose a particular field owing to its scope, but i think its better to chose according to one's interest.
You should join some good coaching in your final year as its too early now to start preparation. At present just focus on engineering.

    hii dear friend,

As your a mechanical engineering student, my sincere suggestion to you is go for OPERATIONS as a major specialization.

where you have a lot of scope to learn, in future also you have plenty options to get job. because MECHANICAL+MBA are very less in Inidia. so your having good opportunities in india for employements also.

so better to go for operations in major business schools.

first concentrate on your current studies. in your final year you can take coaching for CAT/MAT exam..

    good luck
