    Basic topics for preparation for IIM entrance exam?

    What are the basic tips for prepration for this examination? Besides IIM what are the most respective institutes which give better placements? If i have four years after which i plan to appear, what are the steps should i take. I have an engineering background

    It is nice to see you aiming for IIMs. to pursue your MBA course.
    I will give brief scan of preparation to be done

    There are mainly two sections that you need to focus on:
    1. English :
    - Read English Newspaper daily and to enhance your readability read Magazines..
    - Read "Word power made easy" to improve your Vocabulary.

    2. Maths:
    - Start your calculation at your will without using Calculator.
    - GO through the basic concepts of the Maths. like Algebra, Arithmetic , Geometry. etc..

    This will help you in building your foundation..

    Besides IIMs , You can go for :
    1. FMS - Delhi
    2. XLRI- Jamshedpur
    3. Symbiosis Pune
    4. Narsee Monjee
    5. IMT- Ghaziabad

    The most common and important syllabus for the preparation of b-school entrance exams like cat,mat,state mba-cet etc are :

    1. Verbal ability and verbal reasoning

    2.data interpretation

    2.quantitative ability

    arun sharma books (tmh) are very useful books to study for any entrance exam for b -school


    besides iim's :

    syllabus of CAT
    This is the most frequent question asked when one starts preparing for CAT. CAT is a test with no predefined syllabus, however past trends suggest that CAT tests in general aptitude including Verbal Ability (English), Quant Ability (Mathematics), Logical Resoning (LR) and Data Interpretation (DI) skills.

    Similar to CAT, there are other admission tests - MAT, XAT, and SNAP. There are some B-Schools (like IIFT and IRMA) which conduct their own exam. And there are state level entrance tests for admission to colleges in respective states.

    This year CAT exam will held between October 22 and last till November 18.From this year there is a change in the pattern of CAT EXAM as it will have one section less to attempt now. The exam will start with a 15-minute tutorial, after which the main examination will commence.There will be only two sections to attempt. The first section will be about Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation. The second section will cover Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning.Each section will have 30 questions; contrary to the previous three sections of 20 questions each. There will be a time of 70 minutes to be solved. There will be on-screen counters for each section that will regulate the time limit automatically.

    If one want to get admissions in to Indian institute of managements then they must qualify in CAT entrance test.CAT is a common admission test conducted by IIMs to get admissions in to their management programs.CAT is a online test conducted in India wide.If you get more than 90 percentile then only you have chance to get admission in this test.To appear for this test you must complete your grduation with 50% of marks from recognized university with any stream and If you are related to SC and ST categories then 45% of marks are enough.

    For admission in IIM's student should appear in CAT Exam . CAT Exam is common admission Test conducted by IIM's for admission to MBA Course in prestigious IIM's in India . You can appear in CAT Exam if you are fulfilling certain criteria for CAT Exam .

    Requirements for CAT Exam includes bachelor's degree from recognized university with at least 50% aggregate . So , if you have such qualification then you are eligible for CAT Exam .

    To prepare for CAT you need to be good in mathematics, English, reasoning and analysis. All these traits are checked during the examination. The syllabus of he exam is vast but it is divided into 4 sections.
    • Verbal Ability
    • Quantitative Aptitude
    • Logical Reasoning
    • Data Interpretation
    You also need to be updated with your general knowledge as the topics for GDs are generally from these itself. Preparation for interviews is also very important as they expect brilliant answers for the default questions.
    You also need to improve your speed of solving the question paper as the competition is very high. For that you can join some coaching institute. These provide with textbooks and provide invaluable guidance to you. The mock CATs that are done in these centers are of great help.

    You wanna getting seat in IIMs so you can write CAT or JMET exam then you can gain more score you have to flexible any IIMs.Topics are Data interpretation,Logical thinking, Quantitative aptitude, General markets bits.I suggested that you can buy CAT book available in market.In this is mentioned everything as per CAT exam.You should take any specialization in MBA except finance.

    To get into IIM's you must have to secure a better percentile in CAT (Common Admission Test) and CAT is organized once in a year.

    Eligibility :
    You must have 50% in degree ; 45% is enough for SC/ST

    About CAT Exam :
    Duration:
    The CAT 2011 will have only two sections. The first section is Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation; the second section is Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. These two sections will be implemented sequentially with separate time limits.
    The examination will be 140 minutes.

    Selection process of IIM's:
    The process may include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI).

    The CAT exam pattern has been changed, now cat exam is a online test, but the syllabus for CAT is same as syllabus for previous CAT pattern.TCAT examination is conducted to test basically managerial skills, team spirit, intelligentsia.

    The CAT Test includes following sections.

    1. Quantitative Ability
    2. Data Interpretation
    3. Data Sufficiency
    4. Reading Comprehension
    5. Logical Reasoning
    6. Verbal Ability

    Quantitative Ability: The purpose of quantitative ability section is for testing the candidates, their ability to solve problem. The quantitative section contains multiple choice questions based on mathematics. Topics include in this section are given below.

    Quantitative / Mathematical Skills:

    Geometry – Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional.
    Ratios and Proportion- Arithmetic and fractional display problems on ratio and proportion.
    Percentages.

    English : comprehension of passage, syllogism, verbal reasoning, contextual, analogies, antonyms, fill in the blanks, jumbled paragraphs, foreign language words used in English, sentence correction and completion, odd man out, idioms, one word substitution, same word’s different usage, errors in word choice, incorrect words, phrasal, proverb, punctuation etc.

    HELLO FRIEND.......

    For preparations of IIM's you must have a good basics knowledge of subjects like geometry,algebra,airthmetic,science upto 10th class.
    First of all build your grammar strong by reading english newspapers daily,by joining coaching classes of english language,reading novels.
    You must build your calculations exact and fast by not using caculator for complex calculations ,but instead of this you must try to do
    more complex calculations on your own.DO practice of basics and high scoring topics of mathematics.Have a good general knowledge and
    currebt affairs.

    Instead of IIM'S there are many other reputed colleges offering M.B.A course.These are-:
    1.XLRI.
    2.FSI.
    3.IIPM.
    4.SYMBIOSIS.
    5.IMT.
